Today’s tour of the Lake District
will introduce you to some of the most beautiful places
within England’s most picturesque region –
a kaleidoscopic array of green valleys, rocky mountains,
lush greenery and beautiful lakes.
Begin your sightseeing today by driving through some
of the regions picturesque villages en route to Ambleside,
travelling along the length of Coniston Water. On arrival
in Ambleside enjoy a little time to explore at leisure
before venturing on to Keswick, a lovely town located
alongside the scenic shores of Derwentwater, considered
to be one of England’s finest lakes. Enjoy lunch
here at a local hotel before returning to your coach
to continue your panoramic drive.
Drop South once more to enjoy some lovely views of
Ullswater through such villages as Glenridding and Pooley
Bridge before arriving at the town of Windermere set
alongside Lake Windermere, one of Cumbria’s most
stunning lakes and England’s largest mere. Windermere
itself is 11 miles long and 1½ miles wide and
sits handsomely between densely wooded hills and Bowness
town. The Lake is a hive of activity, both for water
lovers, pleasure and sailing boats, and of course fishermen.
After a photo stop in Windermere, continue the short
distance to the town of Bowness for some free time to
browse or enjoy afternoon refreshments (not included)
before continuing on to your awaiting ship in Barrow.
