Journey to charming St Ives today for
an insight into the famous art movement that found it’s
home here in the early 20th Century – a tradition
that continues today.
Walk through the pretty streets of St Ives to the Tate
Gallery for a study of artists’ work that has
been inspired by the Cornish scenery, myths and legends.
Particularly celebrated is the work of a young group
of painters, potters and sculptors who set up a seaside
art colony here in the 1920s (of which Barbara Hepworth
was a member). The gallery itself is designed to frame
a panoramic view of Porthmeor Beach in order to remind
visitors of the natural Cornish countryside that inspired
much of the art on display.
Return back through the maze of street to the famous
Barbara Hepworth Museum which displays her work in the
landscaped gardens and studio house in which she lived
and worked. Enjoy some free time in St Ives before returning
to your ship.
