Home of the Dukes of Northumberland
for nearly a thousand years, Alnwick Castle is a treasure
trove of history. On this half-day tour you will depart
from Newcastle by comfortable motorcoach and drive to
the picturesque town of Alnwick.
As you arrive in Alnwick you will view the mighty fortress
of Alnwick Castle before walking with your guide to
Alnwick’s most recently created attraction, the
Alnwick Garden.
The Alnwick Garden is an innovative, imaginative and
modern garden. It inspires, educates and captures the
imagination of young and old alike. Reflecting the glory
and spirit of the earlier gardens on the site, Alnwick
Garden uses the talent, expertise and technology of
our time. Enjoy a tour of the garden and be sure not
to miss the highlight - The Grand Cascade.
Following your tour of the Garden; walk with your guide
to visit Alnwick Castle.
This lively, vibrant castle is the second largest inhabited
castle in England (after Windsor), and has been home
to the Percys, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since
1309. It has regularly featured in film and television
productions over the years, and was seen recently in
Elizabeth, Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves and now the
location of some of Hogwarts exterior shots such as
the flying broomstick scenes.
As well as the usual attractions of an old castle,
such as battlements and dungeons, Alnwick has many more
things to offer. There is an enviable collection of
fine art, including paintings by Van Dyck, Canaletto,
and Titian. The Northumberland Fusiliers also house
their regimental collection here. Recently the Castle
has been used as the location for Hogwarts school in
the Harry Potter films.
Enjoy a guided tour of the Castle before returning
to your coach for the return drive to Newcastle.
