Venture out of the city to the fabulous
countryside of Dartmoor National Park. Travel through
rolling countryside, over the ‘Moors’ and
past the remote landmark of Brentor church, to Lydford
Gorge. Lydford is so naturally beautiful is that it
is treated as a National treasure.
The famous gorge is 1½miles long and can be
viewed from a circular walk, which starts high above
the river and passes through attractive oak-woods before
dropping down to the spectacular 30m-high White Lady
waterfall. The path then proceeds along an enchanting
riverside walk through the steeply sided ravine, scooped
out by the River Lyd as it plunges into a series of
whirlpools, including the thrilling Devil’s Cauldron.
Afterwards take time to browse at the well stocked
National Trust shop, or enjoy a refreshing cup of tea
at the tea rooms (Not included) before heading back
to Plymouth. Tour operates rain or shine! But if weather
is particularly unpleasant and alternative route may
be taken in order to avoid unsafe conditions in the
Gorge.
