Enjoy the one hour drive to Corfe Castle.
En-route your guide will talk of the history of the
Royal Manor of Portland and the seaside town of Weymouth
made famous by King George III.
Passing through the beautiful Dorset countryside, arrive
at Corfe Castle. This is one of the most impressive
and romantic medieval ruins in England. It was originally
built by order of William the Conqueror in 1080, taking
its final shape in the 14th century. Its marvellous
hilltop position offers magnificent views of the surrounding
countryside.
Afterwards depart for Maiden Castle, regarded by many
as the finest prehistoric fort in England. Developed
by a Stone Age community around 2,000 BC, it was used
as a funeral mound in the Bronze Age. Despite its strength,
the fort was taken by the Romans in AD 43.
