Depart from the ship today and travel
the short distance to the huge and varied museum area
of Portsmouth’s Historic Ships. The City’s
ancient dockyard is home to two of the most famous ships
in British maritime history – the Mary Rose and
HMS Victory. The hull of the Mary Rose; Henry VIIIs
flagship which capsized in battle against the French
is 1545 was recovered from the seabed in 1982 along
with thousands of 16h Century artefacts. This award-winning
exhibition provides a fascinating insight into life
at sea 450 years ago.
Berthed outside is the 19th Century HMS Victory, flagship
in the Battle of Trafalgar on which the infamous Admiral
Nelson was killed in 1805. Other sites include the Royal
Naval Museum and the 19th century ironclad HMS Warrior
(we will issue a ticket that is valid for any of these
sites so that guests have the option). Guests are free
to visit any of these exhibits during their time here
– our guide will be pleased to offer advice on
which ships and exhibitions are most suitable for each
individual. Please note that some of the ships have
limited access for visitors with physical restrictions
such as steep steps and low doorways
