Begin your visit to Shetland with a
brief orientation tour or Lerwick. Before arriving at
Scalloway Castle, built in 1600 by Patrick Stewart;
the Earl of Orkney and Shetland. Inside they have interpretive
displays on the Castle’s history to explore and
enjoy at your leisure (your guide will be available
to answer any of your questions). There will also be
the opportunity to visit the neighbouring Shetland Woolen
Mill where guests can buy real Shetland knitwear –
a wonderful gift or momento of Shetland craft.
Depart Scalloway and drive north through Tingwall Calley,
passing the Law Ting Holm – once the seat of the
‘Althing’ or ancient parliament. Arrive
at the Shetland Jewellery workshop for a guided tour
to discover the unique Shetland designs which have influences
of Norse Celtic history. There will of course be a chance
to buy any of the pieces on sale here.
Finally, return to Lerwick by passing through Kergord
which is Shetland’s largest area of trees, before
arriving back at the port.
