Head north out of Lerwick today passing
Dales Voe, Tingwall, Girlsta Loch and Nesting before
arriving at the scenic township of Vidlin. After a brief
photostop here, continue on to Lunna. Here you will
be met by the owners to visit the private Historic Lunna
House. Enjoy a special guided tour and learn of the
historical significance of the house, built by the first
Shetland Lord Chamberlain in 1663, and the more recent
history and in particular it's role as the Norwegian
Resistance base during the war. Archaeology in the vicinity
goes back as far as 4,000 years: see the remnants of
a ruined broch (iron age tower about 2,000 BC) at the
base of the hill from the house; a tiny ruined monastery
dating from 1710, and a ramp that goes down to the sea
that was constructed by the Vikings between 400 and
800 AD, plus, of course, Shetland's oldest working Kirk
(Church) (about 1750).
Enjoy tea with the owners and learn what it is like
to live in such a remote location.
Returning south after your visit to Lunna, return to
your ship at Victoria Pier in Lerwick |
